HVE&CA Monthly Meeting
The HV Entrepreneur and Consultants Association cordially invites you
to attend our monthly meeting at the Dutchess County Community College
South Campus. (See directions below or call DCC South 298-0755 for details)

HVE&CA meetings are held the first Thursday of each month. This
month meeting will be held at Dutchess County Community College South campus,
ROOM 236 at the HollowBrook facility off Meyers Corners road near the intersection
Rt 9 and Meyers, (behind the Old Country Buffet, along side the Hudson
Valley Federal Credit Union). The meeting begins at 7PM. Local entrepreneurs
are all welcome to attend. There is no charge for this meeting and refreshments will be served as well.
The Hudson Valley Entrepreneurs & Consultants Association (HVE&CA)
plays an integral role in fostering and promoting entrepreneurial activity
in the Hudson Valley. Founded in 1993, the Association offers programs
and resources to help entrepreneurs.

The Year 2000 Problem:
The Small Business/Small Organization Perspective
The Year 2000 (Y2K) problem is not just a problem with big organizations and their computers. It will have a variety of effects on the lives and businesses of individuals and organizations worldwide. Recent news reports size the problem all the way from “a minor inconvenience” to “a major catastrophe.”
Author and computer professional Jesse Feiler will attempt to put the Year 2000 issue in perspective, emphasizing its likely effect on individuals and small organizations. Mr. Feiler is coauthor of Finding and Fixing Your Year 2000 Problem; A Guide for Small Businesses and Organizations, published by Academic Press, a division of Harcourt Brace and Company. Mr. Feiler lives in Philmont, NY (Columbia County) and is Software Director of Philmont Software Mill. His technical credits span mainframes to personal computers, including a similarly broad range of databases, development languages, and end-user productivity tools. He is the author of a number of other books, including Real World Apple Guide and books on specific software products. He serves on the boards of the HB Playwrights Foundation, the Philmont Public Library, and the Mid-Hudson Library System.

The guest speaker for September was Dwight Lodge President & CEO of WebPrime in Fishkill NY.

Mr. Lodge along with Michael Herron founded WebPrime in January 1997 with the goal of providing the business owner with the tools to market his or her company on the World Wide Web at a reasonable price. WebPrime specializes in Internet and Intranet solutions and offers a complete menu of services that range from basic web site hosting to secure shopping cart and online catalog packages with database
integration. WebPrime also offers complete Intranet infrastructure design and development as well as network administration. WebPrime's client list includes: IBM, Con Edison, Hitachi, and Cellular One to
mention a few.
Mr. Lodge has over 13 years of sales and marketing experience in the capital medical equipment industry. His past experience includes: Director of Sales for ALS Medical Products Corporation, one of the largest distributors of medical products and supplies to the emergency medical services market in the United States. Mr. Lodge has also worked in several capacities including District Sales Manager, Sales
Administration Manager, Government Contracts Manager and General Manager of National Accounts for Laerdal Medical Corporation, a Norwegian company which manufactures products for hospitals and
emergency medical services world wide. While at Laerdal Mr. Lodge also served as Team Leader for the corporate Integrated Marketing Team as well as the Activities Based Management Team.
Mr. Lodge is a 1982 graduate of Dekalb College in Atlanta Georgia with a degree in Emergency Medical Technology and a 1985 graduate of The University of Georgia with a Degree in Public Health. Mr. Lodge is the author of The Handbook of Emergency Care Procedures, and a contributing author of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Paramedic Field Care. He received recognition in 1983 as a Lt. Colonel, Aide De Camp, from Georgia Governor Joe Frank Harris, was Commissioned a Kentucky Colonel
by Governor Brereton C. Jones in 1995, was selected for the International Who's Who of Professionals in 1997 and the Marquis Who's Who in the East in 1998.
The guest speaker for June was Sam Wexler. Since 1981, Sam has put together, operated and sold a number of diverse businesses including ; a vacation condo rental and management company; a laundromat/linen cleaning service; and a shopping center -- all located on Hilton Head in South Carolina. He accomplished all this while living in New York State. Sam shared his personal, proven recipe for success and his thoughts on starting another set of businesses in the near future.
Guest speaker for the November 6th meeting was Steve Turk of the Rocking Horse Ranch, His talk was titled "Customer Service does not happen be accident".
The guest speaker for September was James E. Brown of Remote Connections Inc. Jim
is the president of Remote Connections Inc, which designs wide area computer
networks for internet and intranet Web sites. He shared his experiences
in his hunt for technical people, and discussed the Trends in the future
as the technical labor shortage continues.
The guest speaker for June was Mr. Mike Arnoff of Arnoff Moving and
Storage Rt 44, Pleasant Valley. Arnoff Moving and Storage has been in business
since 1924 and Mike is the third generation in his family business. Mike
shared his multigenerational entrepreneurial insights. He'll also discuss
the complex dynamics of the family business.
The guest speaker for May was Harry Reinhardt of Infinity
Data Systems Inc. As an entrepreneur he has found the Internet to be
"an elusive target which reinvents itself on a monthly basis".
Mr. Reinhardt's acquisition of Infinity was recently published on the front
page of the business section of the Poughkeepsie Journal, (Wed March 12)
The guest speaker for April was Bill Sepe of the Poughkeepsie-Highland
Railroad Bridge Co.,Inc.. Bill spoke about the challenges facing his
non-profit company and his strong desire to create something of meaning
for the community and the river valley. He also showed excerpts from many
videos about the 100 year old Railroad bridge to help illustrate the his
community oriented activity to create a "Walkway Over the Hudson River".

The guest speaker for our March meeting was Chris NeJames of NeJames
Pools. His talk was inspiring and his talent as a "street smart entrepreneur
and sales wizard" gave the group much to think about.
The guest speaker for February was Peter Roberts, Owner of The Outhouse.
Peter is many times over an Entrepreneur! He's the former owner of Ship'n
Out and current owner of The Outhouse, a novelty retailing operation in
Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
The guest speaker for our November meeting was Susan Carberry of the
Carberry Group Inc. Her topic "How Much independence can you stand?"
Helped provide insite in making decisions between going it alone vs becoming
an entrepreneur, contractor, agent etc.....
The guest speaker for our September meeting was Chris Hawkinson of
MHVnet. He gave an entertaining and informative talk about his experience
in developing one of the foremost Hudson Valley WEB access sites.
